As an Italian living in the land of espresso, I understand the joy and ritual of savoring a perfectly brewed cup. However, there are times when our stomachs long for a gentler touch, a soothing alternative that won’t disrupt our gut or increase our anxiety. That’s where my Matcha Affogato comes in! Inspired by the Italian tradition of affogato—a delicious dessert of velvety gelato drenched in espresso—this dessert combines the richness and bright flavor of Morning Ritual, the highest quality matcha from Japan, with the Italian charm of affogato. Enjoy… this is going to be the dessert of Summer!


1/2-1 tsp Morning Ritual matcha, depending on how strong you’d like it
Filtered water
Vanilla bean gelato or dairy-free gelato of choice

In a small bowl, sift your matcha to avoid clumps through a small sifter. Add a small amount of filtered water (I use 1-2 tbsp of water). Using a whisk, whisk the matcha and water together until it’s frothy and free of clumps.

In a bowl, add a few large scoops of gelato. Once the matcha is whisked, pour it over the gelato. It’s amazing right away, but even better after a few minutes when the ice cream begins to melt and meld together with the matcha! Enjoy!
