5 Matcha Recipes For Healthy, Heartwarming Desserts & Lattes With Shayna’s Kitchen
I’m a lover of green ingredients—leafy vegetables, Umbrian olive oil, and matcha!
The unique and stunning green color of ceremonial grade Japanese matcha is the result of a natural process that enhances its chlorophyll content, achieved through the traditional practice of shade-growing green tea leaves. The green tea leaves are meticulously cultivated and harvested, then gently stone ground to retain the vivid green color and nutritional abundance, yielding an elevated and superior taste.
Shayna’s Kitchen Japanese Certified Organic Elevated Morning Ritual Ceremonial Matcha is the highest quality ceremonial grade matcha from Kyoto, Japan. Delicately sweet and earthy with no bitterness, it’s the perfect superfood for making these delicious desserts and drinks.
1. Matcha Almond Joy
My Matcha Almond Joy recipe brings back delightful memories of my childhood. This no-bake, upgraded, and grownup version of my favorite chocolate snack is filled with matcha, coconut flakes, raw honey or pure maple syrup, coconut oil and coconut milk. It’s the perfect treat to create more happy memories with friends and family over the holidays.
2. Not So Italian – Matcha Tiramisu
My Not So Italian – Matcha Tiramisu recipe is a fusion of my love for ceremonial Japanese matcha and my love of life in Italy! Here tiramisu is often enjoyed with an espresso—I thought, why not make a matcha tiramisu to enjoy with a matcha latte?
My favorite part of making this recipe is the last step: dusting the vibrant green matcha over pillowy layers of tiramisu. It looks like the hills of the Umbrian countryside, which gives me pure joy and gratitude. Making this green tiramisu puts me in such a festive spirit around the holidays. I can’t wait to make this for Christmas with a toast to family, friends, and my global, mindful, & soulful foodie community!
3. Gluten-Free, Refined Sugar-Free Matcha Muffins
“Do you know the muffin man?”
Well, here’s a matcha muffin recipe! My Delicious Gluten-Free, Refined Sugar-Free Matcha Muffins is a greener and gut-friendlier version of the classic American muffin we all love. Cutting out digestive triggers like gluten and refined sugar, and adding in my Japanese organic ceremonial matcha, I created this as a dessert or snack for people with gluten sensitivities and those on a journey to transform their gut health.
4. Strawberry Milk Iced Matcha Latte
My vegan Strawberry Milk Iced Matcha Latte is a refreshingly sweet pick-me-up for any time of the day!
The word matcha in Japanese translates to “powdered tea”. This makes matcha different from other types of tea. Loose leaf tea or bagged tea are steeped in hot water, but the tea leaves are strained, not consumed.
Matcha tea is special and powerful because you consume the benefits of the entire green tea leaf dissolved into water or milk. The highest grade of matcha tea is ceremonial grade, which is easier to blend and dissolve into water and milk than lower grades. Each cup of ceremonial grade matcha tea contains 120 or more times the antioxidant content of steeped green tea, with disease- and cancer-fighting Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the most abundant catechin in green tea. EGCG is an anti-inflammatory polyphenol that can improve heart, brain, and skin health, and help regulate weight, LDL cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.
5. Maca Vanilla Chai Matcha Latte
My Elevated Morning Ritual Ceremonial Matcha is inspired by my own daily morning ritual of making matcha with the traditional whisking method. On some mornings, I like to spice things up!
If you love both a chai latte and matcha latte, you won’t have to choose between the two. My Maca Vanilla Chai Matcha Latte recipe is a rich, warm combination of both. The spiciness of chai highlights the sweetness of matcha.
Maca, chai tea, and matcha are a trio of natural energy boosters. Matcha and matcha are both antioxidant superfoods, and maca is an adaptogen popularly used to increase endurance, enhance mood, and optimize hormone levels. Chai tea and matcha both contain caffeine, with matcha also containing L-theanine, an amino acid known to enhance relaxation and focus.
